New Milestone Facilitates Student Development

23 Sep, 2022

In this new school year, both students and the campus of Chung Chi sparkle, as we are all about to reach anew milestone with the soon-commencing Chung Chi Student Development Complex (CCSDC).

The prologue of this project began in 2014, when the College saw the severe shortage of indoor activityspaces for her students. It was suggested that the two old staff quarters built in the 1960s, namely Block D and G, be redeveloped, into a new facility to cater for student s’ whole-person development.

Following the demolition of two blocks of staff quarters and the kick-off of CCSDC fundraising campaignin 2017, the Groundbreaking Ceremony of CCSDC was held in the consecutive year to commence such avisionary construction project.

Earlier in this March, having overcome several suspensions of work and delays due to COVID-19, the twin blocks were eventually topped out and ready for a series of interior work which were expected to be completed by October. To inaugurate the long-awaited Student Development Complex, the College is now proud to announce that the Grand Opening cum Naming Ceremonies of CCSDC will be convened in the next month to celebrate the 71st Anniversary of Chung Chi!

Introduction of the "Kilo-Tile Dream" Mosaic Wall of Chung Chi Student Development Complex

20 Jul, 2021

At the atrium of the Kunkle Student Centre, Low Block of the Student Development Complex, visitors will find a threestorey mosaic wall, portraying vividly a famous Chung Chi landmark - the Chung Chi Gate. The mosaic wall will assemble over twenty thousand glass tiles, each engraved with the names of supporters of the "Kilo-Tile Dream" Campaign, showing the joint effort of donors to make the construction project of the Complex a success.

To optimise the design of the mosaic wall and integrate arts elements into it, the College has especially invited Dr. Kan Kit Keung (1966 / Physics), a renowned artist in Chinese painting and calligraphy, to illustrate for the wall. With his artistry, Dr. Kan showcased his ink and watercolour painting of the established Chung Chi Gate and the breathtaking Ma On Shan with great harmony.

Having learnt Chinese painting and calligraphy under various masters, Dr. Kan has conducted and participated in over a hundred exhibitions. Masterpieces of Dr. Kan are collected by numerous museums and organisations across the city and the globe. Dr. Kan has been a keen Chung Chi alumnus and paid huge effort in promoting arts to our students. Two solo exhibitions of Dr. Kan were held in Chung Chi. Moreover, he also served as the College resident-artist, the patron of our calligraphy competition, and for multiple times the instructor of Chinese calligraphy and painting classes. Dr. Kan’s dedication towards the College and his passion in Chinese calligraphy and painting are truly remarkable.

The College shall take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Kan for his devotion to Chung Chi!

🔶 More about the Kunkle Student Centre:

The late Rev. Dr. John Stewart Kunkle dedicated his life to Christian higher education in southern China. During their stay in Hong Kong, The Rev. Dr. Kunkle and Mrs. Kunkle (Dr. Julia P. Mitchell) invited The Rev. Hurbert Pommerenke for the purchase of "Little Tao Fung Shan", and the three built houses for their own residence. Their land and properties were then gifted to the College in the 1970s, and later developed into a low-density private housing estate, bringing a reserve fund for College's later development. The College resolved to name the Low Block, which is located right next to the University's Pommerenke Student Centre, after The Rev. Dr. Kunkle, to commemorate their contributions to the College.

Conquering the Outbreak, Together We Back Our Students

16 Mar, 2020

It is believed, here at Chung Chi College,
every student should be given same opportunities to equip themselves through learning from the experienced  and to grow from shared experience.

However, those carrying a financial burden could be deprived of such opportunities. The unaffordable cost of academic studies and learning opportunities may drive students away especially because of their financial hardship…

For this, thankfully, Chung Chi College has been able to provide students with financial resources to grasp these opportunities. Our College Bursary, Financial aid, Hostel Bursary, Student Emergency Fund, and local / overseas learning activity subsidies are there for students to apply whenever they come across financial needs, thus can ease their burden and allow them a balanced development.

It is estimated that, our needy students might suffer even more from the economic downturn attributed to the outbreak. In particular for some living on part-time jobs on irregular basis, the outbreak strikes even more severely!

The how should I do to lend the students a hand?

  • Donating to Chung Chi's "Student Development Fund: You may empower the College to run kinds of financial aid, and thus lend your support to the needy;

  • The 2020-21 Budget  proposed to disburse HK$ 10,000 to Hong Kong permanent residents aged 18 or above for financial burden relief. Perhaps you might consider sharing the disbursement in donation, and too in emergency aid to our students!
  • The Budget  proposed a 100% (HK$ 20,000 max. each) reduction in salary tax, tax under personal assessment and profit tax. Transforming your saving of this tax reduction into donation would be highly appreciated!

Fiscal year 2019/20 soon ends on 31 March 2020.
Not only does it contribute to the College's all-round education, your donation (not less than HK$ 100) also ensures you an official receipt for tax-exempt.

Together let us conquer the outbreak, and offer our juniors a strong force to strive against this tough challenge!

Celebrating the Good Time

23 Dec, 2019

🎁 Congratulations to Award-Winning Chung Chi Alumni and College Member

In late October Chung Chi-ers, Miss Louise Kwong (2009/Music) and Professor Yam Cheuk Sing of Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, were selected as two of the "Ten Outstanding Young Persons" (TOYP), while in late November Miss Chu Hoi-Ying (2011/Music) gained the honour of Best Live Action Short Film in the 56th Golden Horse Awards – all three Chung Chi-ers were awarded for their success in career and contribution to society.

  • Miss Louise Kwong is the very first Hongkongese soprano performing in Teatro dell'Opera di Roma (Rome Opera House). She was, even during her undergraduate studies here at Chung Chi, already invited by various parties for solo performance. After graduating, the young talent further pursued expertise in the overseas and now succeeds in the world stage of opera.

  • Professor Yam Cheuk Sing focuses on research of children eye disease, in particular myopia, or short-sightedness. He helped developing a systematic approach, which is well accepted over the globe, to prevent worsening of childhood myopia. Strong And Sturdy・We Are CHUNG CHI

06 Dec, 2019

A few weeks ago, The Chinese University of Hong Kong encountered heavy challenges, including charging across the campus, resulting in different degrees of damage of facilities. Offices of CUHK therefore remained closed for two weeks. As all departments and units resumed operation on 25 Nov, offices of Chung Chi College resumed normal operation on the same day as well.

Since then, the University and Colleges have exhausted all sorts of effort to suit the campus up. Facilities across our campus encountered some damages, including graffiti which calls for time to be removed. Yet thanks to the effort of frontline staff members, now the College are mostly safe from obstacles. The walkway near the College Administration Building is also replaced with concrete. At the same time you may again find tranquility on campus as Grisha the cat wandering around the grass field near the Madam SH Ho Hall.

Thank you, dear friends, alumni, staff and students, for your care, blessing and precious advices to both the University and our College, as well as enquiries on how to support the campus restoration work. After the incident, the campus of Chung Chi is still– as it has always been – pleasant and lovely. Wishing all the best in future, we look forward to walk along with all our staff, students and alumni in the new semester, as well as the start of 2020.

The campus is constantly maintained and renewed through the allocation from Campus Development Fund. Your dedication towards College physical facilities is most welcomed. Please simply approach Ms. Sue-ane Leung (3943 6498; This email address is being protected from spambots.
