The Project E building is committed to achieving the platinum rating of BEAM Plus. To this end, many sustainable elements have been incorporated in Project E’s design to minimize its impact on the environment, improve its energy and environmental efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and safeguard the health and well-being of its occupants. The ultimate goal of the project is to create a comfortable and sustainable environment for faculty, students and alumni.
Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) will be introduced for the student hostel of the project. This environmentally friendly and efficient construction method can save approximately 30% of the total project construction time on average, while also enhancing site safety, reducing disruption to the surrounding environment, and improving overall construction quality.
Let’s take a look at the green elements of Project E!
*BEAM Plus is the most widely adopted green building assessment tool in Hong Kong to independently assess the sustainability performance of buildings. Building projects will be graded Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze ratings.
Green Elements of Project E
1. Acoustic windows to protect against railway noise
2. Architectural projection to reduce solar heat gain on facade
3. Operable windows with integrated greenery in common areas to facilitate cross-ventilation
4. Sky garden to promote wellness in design and increase greenery coverage
5. Raised design to facilitate ventilation between the tower and the podium
6. Solar hot water panel on the roof top of the student hostel to heat water using solar energy
7. Photovoltaic panel on the roof converts sunlight into electricity
8. Digital metering system collects data related to energy consumption
9. Digital-ready infrastructure incorporating I.T. and Wi-Fi to centralize the monitoring and management of the building
The green future of CUHK and Chung Chi College relies on your active participation and support! Please donate to Project E and join us in promoting environmental innovation to create a more sustainable environment for the new generation!
