In support of the development of the Project E Student Hostel and to gain deeper insights into the application of Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) in large-scale campus projects, the Development Committee of the College Board of Trustees and the CUHK Campus Development Office visited the MiC production facility in Huizhou on 20 March 2026. The visit aimed at better understanding the design, production, quality control, and delivery arrangements of the hostel modules.

During the visit, the construction team introduced the overall planning and construction programme of the Project E Student Hostel, and explained the overall MiC construction process, including module design concepts, production and quality management mechanisms, transportation logistics, as well as the key technical aspects of on-site hoisting and installation. Through systematic briefing, the delegation gained a more comprehensive understanding of the advantages of MiC construction in enhancing construction efficiency, quality stability, and sustainability.

The delegation then toured the factory production lines to closely observe the fabrication process of the hostel modules, gaining insights into the precision involved in various construction stages. In addition, the team witnessed live demonstrations of module lifting and installation, as well as performance tests such as hydrostatic pressure testing, which further illustrated the modules’ performance in terms of waterproofing and structural safety. These rigorous tests ensured that the future student hostels meet high standards of durability and safety.

The visit enabled the delegation to gain deeper insights into the practical application of MiC technology under Project E. Through the standardisation of module dimensions, structures and configurations, the project enhances construction efficiency while ensuring that the hostel spaces are practical, flexible, and responsive to students’ living needs, providing an important reference for the advancement of subsequent works. Through Project E, Chung Chi College is committed to creating a more comfortable, modern and sustainable residential environment, further supporting students’ growth and living experience.
